A Milestone Moment for Cultivated Seafood
In February, the Iceland Ocean Cluster hosted a landmark event for the cultivated seafood sector, marking the first public showcasing and tasting of cultivated shellfish outside Asia. The event brought together scientists, innovators, and industry stakeholders to explore how cellular agriculture is beginning to reshape the future of seafood.

The demonstration was made possible through the collaboration between Cellmeat and ORF Genetics, combining Cellmeat’s expertise in cultivated shellfish with ORF Genetics’ advanced growth factor technology. The result was a tangible example of how cross-border scientific collaboration can accelerate progress in sustainable food production.
Sea Growth was pleased to attend the event and engage in discussions with the pioneering teams behind this achievement, including Giljun Park and Heejung Kim (Cellmeat) and Berglind Rán Ólafsdóttir and Björn Örvar (ORF Genetics). We also extend our appreciation to the Iceland Ocean Cluster team for hosting and creating a space where meaningful dialogue between research, industry, and innovation can take place.
Events like this underline the growing maturity of the field and its transition from concept to real-world application.
